"When I listen the first Queen albums I have an explosive feeling of joy, the next albums give me power and the last ones are full of power too but combined with sorrow"
Queen is an English rock band formed in 1970 in London by the former members of Smile: guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor, lead vocalist Freddie Mercury (born Farrokh Bulsara) who came with the idea of the bands new name. The following year bassist John Deacon joined the band and this was the most enduring format who lasted since Freddie died on November 24th, 1991. Then, Brian, Roger and John continued playing together featuring other artists until Deacon retired from the music business in 1997. In 2004 Brian and Roger begun touring featuring Paul Rodgers, as "Queen + Paul Rodgers" with other Queen friends: Spike Edney, Danny Miranda and Jamie Moses, who accompanied them in other concerts too.
The band was noted for their musical diversity, multi-layered arrangements using delays, vocal harmonies, and for their impressive live performances where, especially Freddie had a special interaction with the audience. Their 1985 Live Aid performance was voted the best live rock performance of all time in an industry poll. The band is also known for their peculiar and extravagant appearances on stage.
Queen enjoyed success in the UK in the early 1970s with the albums “Queen” and “Queen II”, but it was with the release of “Sheer Heart Attack” in 1974 and “A Night at the Opera” the following year that the band gained international success. They have released fifteen studio albums, five live albums, and numerous compilation albums. Eighteen of these have reached number one on charts all around the world.
